Gua Sha

Surface work with deep effects on tension and restlessness.

Gua Sha is a particular form of Chinese massage. The selected area of skin is worked with a scraper — traditionally made of horn — until it reddens.

This method can relieve symptoms such as restlessness, irritability, nervous and muscular tension, and pain. It is readily used on the upper back and neck, where tension accumulates in people who work long hours at a screen.

Like cupping, Gua Sha causes skin redness — the “Sha” — which disappears after a few days. Its intensity and hue tell the therapist about the stagnation present in the treated area.

Chinese medicine is a complementary medicine. It replaces neither a medical diagnosis nor a treatment prescribed by your doctor. In case of acute or unusual symptoms, consult your doctor first. Never change an ongoing treatment without medical advice. The practice is happy to work alongside conventional medical care.
