Moxibustion

The warmth of mugwort to tonify, warm and restore circulation.

Moxibustion warms acupuncture points by burning dried leaves of Artemisia vulgaris — mugwort — for instance in the form of a cigar or small cones. The heat penetrates deep into the body through the acupuncture points and supports acupuncture in regulating organ function.

This therapy is often combined with acupuncture within the same session. It is particularly indicated when the assessment shows a Yang deficiency or an invasion of cold: cold extremities, pain relieved by warmth, deep fatigue, sluggish digestion, painful periods with a sensation of cold.

The moxa never touches the skin directly: the therapist keeps a comfortable distance and monitors the sensation of heat throughout. The characteristic scent of mugwort lingers for a while in the room and on clothing.

Chinese medicine is a complementary medicine. It replaces neither a medical diagnosis nor a treatment prescribed by your doctor. In case of acute or unusual symptoms, consult your doctor first. Never change an ongoing treatment without medical advice. The practice is happy to work alongside conventional medical care.
