Herbs and food share the same origin: what you eat either supports the treatment — or undoes it.

Chinese medicine holds that herbs and foods share the same origin. There is often a smooth transition between medicine and food: many herbs are used both in Chinese medicine and widely in Chinese cooking, and vice versa.

Like medicinal plants, foods are described according to their energetic properties and effects. Foods and spices are likewise classified as cold, cool, neutral, warm and hot. The pear, for example, is moistening and cooling in nature: eating pears or stewed pear, or drinking pear juice, can help treat a dry cough or constipation.

The advice given at the practice is not about imposing a Chinese diet, but about adapting your usual way of eating: what to reduce, what to favour, how to cook it, at what time of day. A few simple adjustments often make the difference over time.

Chinese medicine is a complementary medicine. It replaces neither a medical diagnosis nor a treatment prescribed by your doctor. In case of acute or unusual symptoms, consult your doctor first. Never change an ongoing treatment without medical advice. The practice is happy to work alongside conventional medical care.
